HOW DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES USE NATURAL RESOURCES TO MAKE ENERGY

Aim:

When you have completed this activity you will have summarised information and compared some of the ways that different communities have used some natural resources to make energy.

Procedure:

• Read the information about the different forms of renewable energy described on the Fact Sheet.
• Use this information to complete the following table.

List the features of your local area that may show some suitability for the above renewable energy options. You may need to find out more information from your library or local council. Find out things such as:

• local weather features such as sunlight and wind speed
• existence of farms, food factories, sewage plants, rubbish dumps
• physical features such as clear treeless areas, fast flowing rivers, dams, coastline.

Re-read the information you have collected about the best site features necessary for the production and use of power from solar, biomass, hydroelectric and wind energy. Make a judgment about which type of renewable energy might be produced in your local area.
